The Romanian Publishers’ Association (A.E.R.) – main professional association of the Romanian book publishers covering all cultural areas, was founded back in 1991. The objective of The Romanian Publishers’ Association is to represent and protect the book publishers’ interests before legal & public authorities, NGOs etc., and to promote genuine values of the Romanian culture and spirituality through an active participation to resizing the relation between the act of culture and the public whom it is addressed to. The Romanian Publishers’ Association especially acts to promote quality book writing and reading, to enable readers’ access to the book, both phisically and informationally, thus contributing to the free circulation of ideas, as well as to the integration of the Romanian culture and language among the international values. WHAT IS Bookfest? In the summer of 2006, The Romanian Publishers’ Association have engaged themselves in organising a national Book Fair – Bookfest, and they carried it on ever since. In 2010, A.E.R. initiated the series of countries – guest of honour. This year, we will celebrate the sixth edition by having Hungary as our guest of honour, following to Spain last year. Bookfest 2011 will be held under the high auspices of the Romanian Ministry of Culture and National Patrimony, with the essential support of the Hungarian Ministry of National Resouces (Nemzeti Erőforrás Minisztérium), the Hungarian Publishers Federation (Magyar Könyvkiadók és Könyvterjesztõk Egyesülése) and the Hungarian Cultural Center (Magyar Kulturális Intézet) in Bucharest. During five days, between May 25th and 29th, from 10.00 to 22.00, authors, publishers, journalists, national and international cultural representatives, politicians, people of all ages will together celebrate The BOOK. In order to keep with its stated purpose of enabling readers’ access to the book, A.E.R. – Organiser of The international Book Fair „Bookfest“ will maintain a free access of the visitors, on the premises of Exhibitions Centre Bucharest, in the pavilions C1, C2, C4, C5 and C6, out of which C6 has been designated to be the international one.
WHAT IS Bookfest 2011? Romania and Hungary share a long tradition of cultural dialogue. At Bookfest 2011, the Organiser wishes to bring in the spotlight the rich cultural heritage of Hungary and encourage the Romanian readers to discover it into more depth. The Hungarian authors whose presence has been confirmed are: Péter Esterházy, Ádám Bodor, Péter Nádas, Attila Bartis. The well known literary translator Anamaria Pop will kindly accompany them. Gábor Csordás, Gabriella Koszta, András Forgách, Márta Józsa, Anikó Fázsy, Mihály Lakatos, and József P. Kőrőssi are also being expected to attend. They will enter into literary dialogues with their Romanian colleagues: Mircea Cărtărescu, Gabriela Adameşteanu, Denisa Comănescu, Alex Ştefănescu, Carmen Muşat, Iulia Popovici, Florian Filip.
What higher artistic experience can be than good music played in a book’s kingdom? The joy of music and reading in the same place and time. Total harmony! Hungary, the guest of honour, will offer two special concerts:
As in the past editions, the Organiser will offer free concerts to the visitors. Some remarkable artists will be on the stage of „Bookfest“: Mircea Tiberian - famous jazz piano player, Mike Godoroja & the Blue Spirits, Taxi pop-rock band, Poesisfolk music band, Three for Helen jazz band composed of very young but talented artists. The Masca Theatre, exceptionally managed and directed by the well known Romanian actor Mihai Malaimare, will perform a series of theatrical shows at Bookfest: Return of the Guardians, Ex Libris, Human Stupidity, as well as a Living Museum of actors impersonating living statues.
